To see some of the events that are coming up click here Coromandel events The School - COLC is located in a 100 year-old Kauri villa. The original part of the building is one of the oldest houses in town. We are right beside the water on the edge of the river that forms the local harbour. The school has sports areas and gardens and is only a few minutes walk from the centre of town. New Zealand WeatherThe climate in New Zealand can be described as sub-tropical, and because Whitianga is in the northern part of the country we never get very cold. A really cold day for us in the middle of winter is about 10 degrees celcius. It never snows in Whitianga and in most winters we would only have 3 or 4 frosts. An avarage day in the middle of winter might be 15 degrees, and it is common for us to have beautiful clear sunny days where outside activities are still great fun. It certainly does rain more in the winter time and springtime in Whitianga can be very changable. It is often said we can have 4 seasons in one day!!! Summer is much warmer and usually much drier. Temperatures can get up to 28 to 30 degrees, but an average day would be 23 to 25 degrees. What you do have to be very careful about in NZ is sunburn. The NZ sun is the most intense you will find anywhere and you can even burn on a cloudy day.. You should buy NZ sun protection because we often find that those brought from other countries do not give enough protection. So don't be too worried about winter in NZ, it is not too cold, especially in Whitianga. We sometimes have students on activities go swimming even in the middle of winter.... the brave ones!!! |
