Our Logo
|
When we began to look for a new logo for the school we wanted to find something with a New Zealand feeling, and a clear meaning that would connect it to the school. We discovered that we liked 2 distinctly New Zealand designs. The first is a round pounamu (or greenstone) carving, which relates to the "Circle of Life". The circle of life is ongoing, with no beginning and no end. The second design is a bone carving of a koru, which is recognised as the symbol of new life and new growth. It also signifies a new beginning. We put these two familiar designs together to form the new logo, and we see the meaning as "New Beginnings Within the Circle of Life" This is significant to the school for a number of reasons. COLC has been operating for a long time but the new ownership marks a new beginning for the school. This school continues in its task of teaching all the time, constantly, but students come and go, always bringing change and new combinations to the wonderful mix of people we have here. But most of all, for many of our students, coming to COLC signals a change in their lives, a new beginning created through their experiences in NZ, the relationships they form here, the things that they learn from other people, other cultures and through coming to a new understanding of what is really important in their own lives. When you look at the logo, you see green, which reminds you of New Zealand. When you look at the words you see COLC, which I am sure, reminds you of a very special place. |
